Scope: Renovation, Single-family Residence Backyard

This was a fun opportunity to completely transform a backyard from wall-to-wall into something inviting, sustainable, easy to maintain, and charming. Only the lemon tree was to remain. It became the central axis which helped us create the natural flow around it and spaces for rest outside of it. The long concrete block wall was also a challenge to change but not reface. We used thin strips of wood to create warmth and shadow lines. Then planted vines below which took shape and changed it’s identity. The true test was a summer BBQ which I was lucky to attend and witness all the outdoor living used so naturally.
